How debates work— stages & rules
Phone verification required to create or join a debate. Helps cut down bots, spam, and behavior that breaks the rules.
- Prep (35s) — test cam & mic. Starts when both join; no ready confirm needed.
- Coin flip — picks who opens. Same result for everyone.
- Opening (15s each) — flip winner first. No challenges.
- Rebuttal (3 rounds) — ~30s each turn. Who speaks first alternates each round.
- Closing (20s each) — reverse of opening order. No challenges.
Challenges — press Challenge while your opponent is speaking to interrupt them. Their timer pauses; you get 10s to speak; then they resume with leftover time +10s. 3 per debate, max 2 per rebuttal round. Not allowed in prep, openings, or closings.
Spectators vote on the winner and can drop live emoji reactions. Debaters can't vote on their own match.
